Analysis of a Short Film.

Sea Change

Narrative
The film is based on a story of two sisters travelling down the east coast of America to find out a solution to one of the sisters condition that involves bones crystalising and protruding out of her body. It centres on how they progress down the coast and how her condition is getting worse, and how it is affecting both mental states of the sisters in different ways







 Cinematography
The film uses plenty of mid-shots to show the relationship of the two sisters throughout the entire short film, mainly on the conversations they have with each other, receiving the emotions and facial expressions of both individuals. As well as using close-ups on individual shots of both people. It also uses the same two shots when  focusing on the actual crystals portruding out of her body to show what is the essential cause of the problem, and the main issue of the film. Also plenty of over-the-shoulder shots are used to show what the character sees, using it to focus on what one of the characters is doing on the film, as well as being used to show he conversation between her and the man when using the Skype call. Again using over-the-shoulder shots when they are travelling in the car to show where they are going. as well as what they are doing in the car.

Editing
Editing is used in the film to show the conversations between the two characters. From the middle of the short film to the end of the film, editing is used to show what each other characters are doing while apart from each other, switching between the two. Showing the girl who has the bones protruding out of her body having a slight breakdown, while the other woman having a conversation with someone who seems to be talking about her mental state. I think that the editing is used to be compared the constant change in her condition, getting faster when she is having a fit, or her mood changes rapdily, and not as fast when she is generally happier and co-operating with her sister and in no pain.



Mise-En-Scene
The main appearance that the short film focuses on the bones protruding out of the girls body as this is the main plot, and how her life revolves around it constantly happening. Other than that, the other focus is the appearance of her, and how she wears clothing to big for her and baggy to cover up the bones coming out of her body. Not many props are used other than the car that they are travelling in, which is actually quite essential as it acts as their central place where they come together, symbolising their home throughout the film.
