Viral Marketing Research

Viral Marketing Research
Viral marketing is a type of marketing techniques which relies on and encourages people to pass along a marketing message by word of mouth. Online viral marketing uses blog and social media networks to produce positive word of mouth brand awareness to encourage people to want to watch the film.

The internet makes it possible for a campaign to go viral very fast. However the internet and social media technologies do not make a brand viral they just give people the ability to share the content with friends and other people much faster. For a campaign to be successful it must be:
  • appealing to the audience
  • worth sharing with family and friends
  • a large platform must be used, for example; Youtube or Facebook
  • an initial boost to gain attention, for example, sharing to Facebook fans.

Complicated Love Storyboard Title Sequence

The storyboard initially establishes that the production logo will firstly feature in the title sequence in order to introduce to the audience who the following film is by.
The main location shot is Callum's house, and the title sequence gives the opportunity to indicate characters. The first character/actor is Callum. The "starring" actor is titled at the bottom left of the sequence in bold white font.
The location, character form and structure (i.e. text/font, and soundtrack) is consistent throughout the title sequence so that the audience can create an expectation about the film through hints of location/character; next following is "with" character/actor Emily.
The main character/actor finally follows as "and" Harry. The final character shown in the title sequence is the first and last to appear in the film itself, which can lead the audience member to take connotations of this, such as the importance of Harry's character.
The title sequence concludes with the Complicated Love Title which is also featured in our Film Poster to create synergy across our platforms.

Individual Film Poster for 'Complicated Love'

Individual Film Poster Idea

This is my film poster idea, i have used Steel Tongs Regular font as i feel it a simple font however stands out to the audience, this is the font which we have used for our title so therefore by using this font i am being consistent with the film and the poster. In the bottom corner of the film i have put our production logo so that people know who produced the film and also the certificate so people can see what certificate the film is so that they have a rough idea of what content will be in the film.

I have used the photo of Emily in the middle as Harry wants Emily to be his girlfriend and Callum is seen with Emily in the last scene, i also chose this photo as Callum and Harry are shaking hands, this shows the audience that they are friends also matches the radio advert about Harry using he help of his best friend to try and get Emily's number. Emily's face in the picture also says complication which gives a hint that the film is complicated as Emily is look at Callum rather than Harry.

I chose the purple for the background as it is a bright colour yet simple, purple is associated with happy colours just like romance, the purple also matches with the dark purple for the title. I also used pink for the word 'love' as people associated pink with love and happiness.

Teaser Film Poster

This is my poster for our film using Romantic film conventions, such as in using pastel colours. Additionally, the central image to our poster uses a cartoon-like version of Harry; I chose this because it identifies protagonist Harry as mystery which he is to Emily as she doesn't even know him much or his intentions. Furthermore, the symbols above Harry's head represent his confusion, hence the "Complicated" in the title. This features an originally-designed main image, but is less suitable than the Official Film Poster (here) because it doesn't feature a photographed-edited image. It was decided this is more of a teaser advert campaign poster because it makes the audience keen to find out more about the film, awaiting for the main poster to highlight more information about Complicated Love.

Details of Re-shoots

Reshoots
Throughout filming we were faced with many problems which meant that we had to do reshoots. The reshoots which we did were:

Scene 1

Due to it been a windy day the day we filmed it was very difficult to hear the dialogue and so therefore we re-filmed this scene on a day when it wasn't windy so the sound quality was better.

Scene 2

This was due to the camera not been in the correct place and was out of focus.

Scene 3

Due to the lighting been poor and didn't match the rest of the film.

Scene 7

This is due to needing a close up of Harry writing on the pizza box and the previous time the sun been too bright and made it hard to see the writing

Scene 9

This scene needed a close up adding of all of the characters faces to show their facial expressions.

The Notebook title sequence

Notebook Analysis

The Notebook is a romance film retelling a love story of two individuals and how they came together, and the life that they experienced. The opening scene shows a young man rowing through what appears a giant lake, while the sun is setting in the background. The two main focuses are the man in the lake, as well as the red sky and the sun setting. It opens the film with a quiet and loving feeling, foreshadowing on what the film would be like, but contrasting the fact that the man in the lake is alone. While rowing across the lake the titles appear, reeling the actors names while the sun sets in the background and the character moves further up the lake, signalling a slight passing of time.

Sound is very minimal, using the diagetic sounds in terms of the waves of the lake that seem to be crashing gently across the banks. No non-diagetic sound is used, so the sound of the scene is completely natural, and again gives a feeling of calm and sets the scene for a romantic genre for the film. It could be suggested however that it is a "calm before the storm", and that actually the film could be something different altogether. The other main focus is the sunset. In contrast to a stereotypical romance film in which a sunset is used at the end of the film to signal a love coming together, its used at the beginning for only one individual against the normal of the genre.
