Changes In Our Storyline

As our group has progressed through Blogger and done greater amounts of research, such as into: film festivals, age-rating of film certificates, genre and audience, we have added to, amended and furthered our knowledge into an updated storyline that we believe suits the greatest interests of our audience and age-appropriate viewing.

Below is our new storyline:

Complicated Love
Nothing's easy in Complicated Love.
The story revolves around an unbeknown love triangle between three college students: main character Harry, his best friend Callum, and the new girl at college Emily. Emily is the love interest of Harry, but he is a hopeless romantic who has no experience in talking to girls; he doesn't know how to approach her in any way. He develops a list of different ways to get in contact with Emily to ask her out, all of which are ridiculous and are bound to fail. The first way is to add her on Facebook and phone the number on her profile, but discovers it to be an old number and leads to the wrong person. Once this clearly hasn't worked he asks his best friend Callum about her and receives advice on what he should do in the situation, to which Callum gladly helps his friend out by trying to get her number. Little does he know that Emily is actually interested in Callum and she believes he is asking for her number for himself. Dropping the sheet with the number on losing it, he fails with this idea and moves onto another. Another couple of failed attempts later of Harry trying to ask Emily out, one involving a pizza, he just gives up. On his way to Callum's house after college to see if he still has a copy of the number, he discovers an open door and makes his way upstairs to find Callum. As he enters the room he discovers his best friend sat on the settee with the new girl.

What we changed
  • INT. HARRY'S ROOM: Changed location from Harry's Room to College Day as we felt that having another house/location confused the script; it was simpler for the audience to familiarise Harry's character with College.
  • INT. HARRY'S ROOM: Removed look in Yellow Pages from the list Harry creates to lose the Yellow Pages scene as it didn't work with the rest of the scenes and made the film too long for a short film.
  • EXT. TOWN HALL FOUNTAINS: Removed scene where Harry searches for Emily's number on Facebook and calls the wrong number, speaking to an elderly lady named Beatrice instead. We removed this scene as, when we filmed it, the quality was poor and didn't link well with the film. This was due to the fact that Harry had previously looked up the number in an earlier scene and, in another scene, had also spoken to someone else. Therefore this scene felt inappropriate due to repetition of storyline.
  • EXT. BENCH: In the 'pizza scene' the script stated that Harry ate the pizza as he couldn't find Emily. We changed this slightly in order to shorten the length of the film; instead of attempting to find Emily, Harry never makes it to that stage as he eats the pizza beforehand because he is hungry. Additionally, we thought that not making it in attempting to finding Emily because he was hungry added to the comedy aspect of our Romantic Comedy.
